Happy Mother's Day
May. 14th, 2006 01:34 pmI don't usually worry too much about Mother's Day (despite being a prime canditate for enjoying it -- what with the three kids and all). Most likely this is because in our family I am the one in charge of "to-do's" and I'm not prone to "to-do" on my own behalf. I suspect that this is a plight shared by many. (I started to write "by many women" but I doubt it is as gendered as that. Whichever member of a given household ends up organizing Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthday parties, etc... Often women, in our society, but surely not universally. I'm digressing big time.)
Another reason for my lack of interest in this particular holiday no doubt stems from the fact that Mom died right before Mother's Day the first year that I was a mother. That sucked, let me tell you.
In any case, one of my co-workers asked if I had any plans for Mother's Day. I sort of blinked at her. Was I supposed to?
But then, this morning my husband brought me coffee in bed (I am so spoiled), and Rowan brought me a strawberry (he told me very solemnly that I had to rinse it before I could eat it), and Morgan brought me a dandelion that she went and picked outside. I didn't get to see Rhi before I left the house, but she sent me a virtual Mother's Day card in my email.
I'm a lucky mom.
