Darcy sends the following text to Jane: "Steve is reading a translation of Gangnam Style. Theatrically. SAVE ME."

Next text, sent only a few seconds later: "OMG gng to kill Tony & Clint for showing him Youtube, Christ Jesus."

(I wrote that into my NaNo because my daughter just played Gangnam Style for my husband, who responded as any sensible person would be Googling the lyrics and reading them aloud. What is my life?)

Gacked from all of the places...

So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious but you have no idea about, or something obscure you just have to know. Ask away. All topics, within reason, are open for discussion.

If something is too personal, I reserve the right to vague my answer up or straight-out not answer. But you'll never know what I'm willing to say with the anonymity of being on-line if you don't ask!

I know, I know, I'm not done with the last one yet.

Gacked from e'rybody.

Pick a number from the list and I'll answer it in the comments. I reserve the right to choose the fandom, unless you specifically ask for one.

8 - Do you prefer characters from real action series or anime series?

12 - Your favorite fanartist/author gives you one request. What do you ask for?
13 - Your favorite fanart or fanartist.

25 - A fandom you’re in but have no ships from.
26 - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go.

For those of you playing along in the Meme game (see post here), I am still working on responses. I haven't forgotten you, I'm just slow.

(If anyone wants to add another character to the pile, go for it. Shop hasn't closed up yet.)

I'm heading to Panera tonight for my free birthday pastry, and my free not-birthday coffee. I'm taking my lap-top and plan to work on the "What Happened When Tony Stark Got Sorted at Hogwarts" thing I'm writing, IDEK, blame [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch.

Have you noticed that I blame everything on her? I have no agency of my own, and she is responsible for all of the things. Ask me, I'll tell you.

Brilliant

I must confess, this clip is wholly brilliant, and there is no way in which it does not excel in all things.

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch.

I'm not entirely sure I actually have any properly unpopular fannish opinions, but I can give it a go. (And if it looks like I stole a couple of these from [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch and [livejournal.com profile] joyshine, well... there is a reason we are friends, yes?)
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer was first and foremost a metaphor for "High School is Hell."  It should have ended with Graduation (season 3).
  • The Sex-to-Plot ratio in the Anita Blake novels really started to get on my nerves.  Now, the sex WAS the plot for the Merry Gentry books, in a wholly organic not-at-all contrived kind of way -- so it didn't bother me.      That said, I really adore Laurel K. Hamilton as an author, and I don't get the point of susposedly being in the Fandom for the sole purpose of bashing her.  Geez, people.  If you really hate it, go read Sherillyn Kenyon.
  • Disney retelling myths, fairy tales and legends is every bit as valid as Shakespeare using the story of Pyramus and Thisbe as a basis for Romeo and Juliet.
  • The Magician's Nephew was frickin' BOOK SIX people.  Children are not too stupid to understand the concept of "back story" -- although apparently some grown ups are.  (I am so right there with you, [livejournal.com profile] joyshine .)
  • I will read a whole lot of pairings in Harry Potter that make other people squick like WHOA.  BUT -- incest and cross-gen REALLY bother me.   Won't do it.
  • I keep meaning to watch more Supernatural, Dr. Who, BSG, Torchwood, etc... and well -- I really like them (particularly BSG and Dr. Who) but I can't be arsed.  I don't watch much TV.
  • I really LIKED HBP.  So there.  I'm gonna go see it again too, see if I don't.
So... what are your unpopular fannish opinions?

Yesterday's faffing was largely successful. I never did make it to Franklin, but that's probably just as well, really. [livejournal.com profile] unforgrettable and I had a grand time at Outback, right up until we both drank just a smidge too much Wallaby Darned and got tummy aches. I did manage to get one present for [livejournal.com profile] dirocyn's biffday, but all in all, the 31st anniversary of his birth will not be marked with material acquisition. (Since he says we have too much stuff already, I figure it'll all be good.) I shall have to arrange certain *ahem* "wifely" gifts.

In other news, I ran across a "new" (in the new-to-me sense) fic writer yesterday. If you haven't read any of [livejournal.com profile] rozarka's stuff, lemme recommend her. She writes Viktor/Hermione (I know, I know, just shut up and read it.) I really like her characterization of Viktor -- as a man who is highly intelligent, thoughtful and sensitive, but is limited by cultural and language barriers.

Anyhow, in perusing her journal, I ran across a reference to [livejournal.com profile] 7spells. I followed the link and am totally intrigued. The prompts are great -- and best of all just reading over them I was nibbled by plot bunnies. So, I caved. The way it works, is one person can claim a character/set of characters/setting at a time, and then they write 7 pieces using the prompts supplied on the list. I signed up to be put on the waiting list for Draco.

Nothing more to report on the writing front, as I've gotten myself distracted by foolish things like work and husbands' birthdays.

I've also been distracted by Dr. Who. I blame [livejournal.com profile] black_magdalene. I've "acquired" most of the first season, but I haven't gotten the chance to watch much of it yet. Also, [livejournal.com profile] traveller has offered me some Supernatural -- which I've never watched but sounds intriguing. I'm really loving the idea of watching television without the hassle of actually, you know, watching television. I may have found my perfect compromise.

I wonder if anyone has any Joseph Campbell out there....

In other news, I plan to spend my day off "faffing around" as [livejournal.com profile] mistful puts it. I'm going to do some birthday shopping, and some me shopping, and some spending time with my [livejournal.com profile] unforgrettable, and some watching (you guessed it) Dr. Who.

Cuz I can.

Cuz its my day off.

Whee!
