A meme! Gacked from damn near everybody.

Name a fandom and I'll tell you which character I most likely:

Want as my mentor:
Bake cupcakes for:
Lend my books to:
Put thumbtacks on the chair thereof:
Have a crush on:
Pack up and leave if they moved next door:
Vote for President:
Pick as my partner in a buddy movie:
Marry:
Want as my boss:
Sue:
Want as my best friend:
kadollan: (Default)
Gacked from all of the places...

So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious but you have no idea about, or something obscure you just have to know. Ask away. All topics, within reason, are open for discussion.

If something is too personal, I reserve the right to vague my answer up or straight-out not answer. But you'll never know what I'm willing to say with the anonymity of being on-line if you don't ask!

A Question for the Committee

Here's a question for those of you who post fic on AO3: What is a reasonable Hits to Kudos ratio? If say, 95% of your hits don't leave kudos should you assume that nobody likes it? Or is 5% a pretty good number? What's average? Or do you even worry about the ratio? How can you tell if you're winning?

Update on the NaNo Front

I've managed to be at or slightly above the word count goal every day so far. ::knocks wood:: I am hoping to keep that up (or maybe get ahead) because I know that there are going to be some serious interruptions before all is said and done (and by "serious interruptions" I mean "cooking Thanksgiving dinner for 18+ people" and "my best friend is having a baby and I'm one of her birthing coaches.") So, yeah -- ahead would be good, although so far I've just pretty much been managing "not behind."

I posted one the things I wrote this month night before last (this is not unrelated to the AO3 Kudos/Hits question above.)

Marvel Avengers Movie Universe/Captain America: The First Avengers "Can't Get Warm." Rated Teen. 1358 words. Bucky wakes up cold on a table in a German camp, and he can't get warm. Events in Captain America: The First Avenger from Bucky's POV.

DVD Commentary Meme

I have the DVD Commentary Meme on offer here. I had fun doing inline commentary for "The Lost Boys." Come play with me!
kadollan: (Default)
I've got just shy of 9,000 words on my NaNo and I'm pretty happy with what I've written so far. I thought I was going to write the HP Shakespearean Romp, but what I seem to actually be doing is working on Avengers short stories.

I'm not sure how that happened, but I just wrote 1600 words of Bucky POV stuff set during Captain America: The First Avenger. ::wibbles::

Anyway, I'm writing some stuff that doesn't suck, so I'll take it. Even if it wasn't quite what I was expecting.

Now, on to the meme! Stolen most recently from [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch.

Pick any passage of 500 words or less from any fanfic I’ve written, and
comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you the
equivalent of a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I
wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what’s going on in the
character’s heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the
context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that
you’d expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

My fic can be found either here at Awfully Clever or here on AO3.

Play with me!

Oh hey! I only have two of the character study things left -- both for [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch Kara Thrace and Natasha Romanov. I can do those tonight maybe and then I'm freeeeeeeeee.

Well, free accept for the drabblets I owe people. I'm really struggling with [livejournal.com profile] inell's. It just doesn't want to do right.

Once I'm done with that (and not before, because I told you guys to thump me if I started any new memeish things), I'm going to ask my flist for questions to pose to the Avengers. I did this last year for Harry Potter, and it really helped me find my voice (their voice, actually).

So... be thinking of questions you'd like to as the Avengers and their assorted staff, compatriots, co-workers, and buds.
kadollan: (Default)
I aten't ded.

Do you like how I was all "prompt me for drabbles!" and then I disappeared for two three weeks?

Yeah, me neither.

Anyway, I'm going to get those done this week (I'm hoping to get some inspiration for NaNoWriMo -- Three weeks to go, and I've got no clue what I'm writing.) And I'll also finish up that character meme from last month.

Yeah, if I post another meme before those are finished, will one of you thump me?
kadollan: (Default)
I know, I know, I'm not done with the last one yet.

Gacked from e'rybody.

Pick a number from the list and I'll answer it in the comments. I reserve the right to choose the fandom, unless you specifically ask for one.

1 - Your current OTP.
2 - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind.
3 - A pairing you have never liked and probably never will.

26 - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go.

For those of you playing along in the Meme game (see post here), I am still working on responses. I haven't forgotten you, I'm just slow.

(If anyone wants to add another character to the pile, go for it. Shop hasn't closed up yet.)

I'm heading to Panera tonight for my free birthday pastry, and my free not-birthday coffee. I'm taking my lap-top and plan to work on the "What Happened When Tony Stark Got Sorted at Hogwarts" thing I'm writing, IDEK, blame [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch.

Have you noticed that I blame everything on her? I have no agency of my own, and she is responsible for all of the things. Ask me, I'll tell you.

[livejournal.com profile] star54kar sent me this lovely parting gift -- which I very cleverly taught to fetch the story to which it refers.

::is ridiculously pleased by very basic html coding skills::

Photobucket

And I thought I'd give you lot another go at the meme, since the only taker I've had so far has been [livejournal.com profile] the_disco_fairy.

Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post.

C'mon y'all. PLAY WITH ME.

I had a lot of fun going back and thanking the people who commented on my [livejournal.com profile] weasley_fest fic last night. I felt really rude going for nearly a month without acknowledging the comments. (I do realize that given that this was an anonymous fic exchange that it wasn't actually rude, but I never really claimed to be rational.)

This was the first fest that I'd participated in since the 2004 [livejournal.com profile] harry_a_thon. Note: I am a better writer now. That is a goodness. Anyway, I'm really glad I decided to sign up. The experience was really good for me. And apparently the [livejournal.com profile] weasley_fest is like a gateway fest, because now I'm doing another anonymous exhange, two Big Bangs, and a ldws.

I am a mad woman.

So, in summary:

  • [livejournal.com profile] hp_triangle, an anonymous fic exchange, min. 1000 words, due in September
  • [livejournal.com profile] ginnybigbang, 20,000 word minimum, first draft due in November
  • [livejournal.com profile] harrypotterbang, 15,000 word minimum, first draft due in November
  • [livejournal.com profile] dg_ldws, weekly drabble challenge (I'm frankly terrified.)

In other news: it's time for a Meme! (gacked from [livejournal.com profile] coffee_n_cocoa)

Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post.

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch.

I'm not entirely sure I actually have any properly unpopular fannish opinions, but I can give it a go. (And if it looks like I stole a couple of these from [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch and [livejournal.com profile] joyshine, well... there is a reason we are friends, yes?)
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer was first and foremost a metaphor for "High School is Hell."  It should have ended with Graduation (season 3).
  • The Sex-to-Plot ratio in the Anita Blake novels really started to get on my nerves.  Now, the sex WAS the plot for the Merry Gentry books, in a wholly organic not-at-all contrived kind of way -- so it didn't bother me.      That said, I really adore Laurel K. Hamilton as an author, and I don't get the point of susposedly being in the Fandom for the sole purpose of bashing her.  Geez, people.  If you really hate it, go read Sherillyn Kenyon.
  • Disney retelling myths, fairy tales and legends is every bit as valid as Shakespeare using the story of Pyramus and Thisbe as a basis for Romeo and Juliet.
  • The Magician's Nephew was frickin' BOOK SIX people.  Children are not too stupid to understand the concept of "back story" -- although apparently some grown ups are.  (I am so right there with you, [livejournal.com profile] joyshine .)
  • I will read a whole lot of pairings in Harry Potter that make other people squick like WHOA.  BUT -- incest and cross-gen REALLY bother me.   Won't do it.
  • I keep meaning to watch more Supernatural, Dr. Who, BSG, Torchwood, etc... and well -- I really like them (particularly BSG and Dr. Who) but I can't be arsed.  I don't watch much TV.
  • I really LIKED HBP.  So there.  I'm gonna go see it again too, see if I don't.
So... what are your unpopular fannish opinions?

Rules:
1. Anyone who looks at this entry has to post this meme and their current wallpaper on their Livejournal. (You know... if you want)
2. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper!
3. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

This is a "picture" of Remus Lupin's desk top.   The journal is, of course, his private diary and it sits on top of the Marauders Map.   The notes on the right are scraps from notes passed in the classrooms of Hogwarts class of 78--- all of this is from "The Shoe Box Project".   The picture in the upper right hand corner is a randomly rotating slideshow of my LJ icons (the picture that is showing now is of Harry and Dumbledore leaving the cave).... you know... I might have a Harry Potter thing....

Gacked like a gacking thing that gacks....

Name your 10 absolutely favorite couples (het/slash/canon/fanon) and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms.

1. Cutter/Skywise  (Elfquest)
2. Remus/Sirius (HP -- Marauder Era)
3. Kirk/McCoy  (Star Trek Reboot)
4. Willow/Oz (BTVS Seasons 1-3)
5. Alanna(Alan)/George (The Song of the Lioness Quartet)
6. Crowley/Aziraphale  (Good Omens)
7. Sam/Frodo (LoTR)
8. Faramir/Eowyn (LoTR)
9. Harry/Draco (HP)
10. Kirk/Spock (Star Trek Reboot or TOS)

Okay, I tried for 10 different fandoms...but it would have been a stretch.  (Mind you, I could do 10 pairings from HP alone no problem.)
