Okay, many of you know that I'm an "Avon Lady."  Which is to say, I've been running an Avon business since 2002.   When I quit working at MTSU, my business started to take off, but shortly after we were down to one car.  When [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch went to work at Ye Olde Solutions of Med, I also lost having a second adult in the house during the day.  Somewhere in the middle of all of this, I just got bad at it.  I was depressed (who's shocked, really?) and I stopped following through.   Around 3 or 4 months ago I just quit.   My only helper emailed me to tell me she wasn't going to be my helper anymore (in large part due to how unreliable I had become) and I decided "Fuck it."  I kept my account because I really like Avon products, but I wasn't selling it anymore.

Recently, I've been pondering the great "Do I go back to work" question, since [livejournal.com profile] dirocyn and I are in some serious financial straits.  (That's fancy talk for "screwed").  I called our old day care, who used to be the cheapest in town, and found out that my two kids would be $740 a month.   If I were to get a job where [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch works (not to mention every other adult in our coven saving [livejournal.com profile] dirocyn),  and I were to make $10/hr, after taxes I would bring home $60.  Unless we got insurance, in which case I would owe them money.  I'm thinking this is what you call a bad plan.

I pondered seeing if LadyHawke or WalkingCrow would be able to help with child care, but I don't think that either of them need the extra stress right now.   [livejournal.com profile] dirocyn is almost always in court in the mornings and home in the afternoons, but today, he had court at 1:00 p.m., so he didn't need to leave the house until noon.   So,  unless I work 3rd shift, trading the kids between us isn't much of an option.

Somewhere amidst all of this pondering it occurred to me that I could try Avon again.  I now have a working vehicle, and I can be flexible enough that working around [livejournal.com profile] dirocyn's schedule won't be an issue.  (Or at least not an insurmountable one).    I went to our sales meeting last night, for the first time this year I think, and I have an appointment for lunch with Margot, our DM.  (That's District Manager not Dungeon Master.)

The thing is, I never actually made any money the first go 'round.  Note to self:  Sell more than you buy.

If any of my out of town friends want to help the needy, I'm set up as an e-rep.
