Dec. 8th, 2005 06:49 pmLong time no post with substance, eh?
So, I went back to work in October. This was a decision that was a loooong time being made, and probably overdue at that.
dirocyn and I have been having whatcha call financial difficulties (read that to mean: "we've been screwed") for quite a while now. Me working was a solution that was not as obvious as all that though. Rowan and Morgan would have both needed daycare ($750 - $800 a month).... I would have made (am making) maybe a $1000. Explain how that would have been useful.
Anyway, then Morgan started Kindergarten. So, daycare is down to $120 a week. Still a lot, but more manageable certainly.
The real issue of course was that I didn't want to go back to work. See, I like being a homemaker. I'm good at it even. Hell, I like doing laundry. Long story short, I got over my bad self, screwed my courage to the sticking point, girded my loins (er, my resume) and started applying. I found a job that
unforgrettable directed me towards. I'm an email rep for Borders' Customer Care call center. Here's the kicker: I like it. Who knew? Better yet, I'm good at it.
I was hired on as a seasonal/temp worker, with the understanding that "if" (big "if") they a) needed me and b) I didn't suck that there was a possibility I might be hired on full time in January. I had my 30 day review early this week, and was told that I'm doing quite well. I also overheard the recruiting lady telling the receptionist that she expected to hire a lot of the seasonals full time because the Borders Rewards program is going nation wide then. Soooooo..........
Oh, and the very bestest thing? I get a 30% discount at Borders.
Sweet.
